DETROIT (AP) - If you've been heard saying that grey is the new
black -- or that anything is the new anything -- the folks at Lake
Superior State University wish you'd stop.
It's among 19 words and phrases on the Michigan school's annual
List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use,
Over-Use and General Uselessness.
The list also includes "perfect storm," as well as "under the
bus" -- which is where the compilers of this list would like these
words to be thrown.
There's also "surge," referring to the troop buildup in Iraq.
And, the phrase "It is what it is." The person who nominated
that one says it adds nothing to the conversation.
