A mother says a local high school wouldn't enroll her daughter because of her age.
Laurie Miller says for three weeks, she's been trying to get her 16-year old daughter into Satsuma High School.
She moved to the area from North Carolina.
Miller says when she talked to the people in the school and at the district office in Montgomery, They told her that it was too late in the school year and state law says if a student is at least 16 years old....he or she can be denied enrollment.
"it's a public school. It's called a public school because every child has the right to go. If it was a private school i'd understand that. They have the right to deny, but a public school doesn't," said mother Laurie Miller.
News Five spoke with Satsuma High School principal Debbie Altman who said the reason Miller's daughter was denied enrollment was because her school records from North Carolina had not arrived.
the 16-year old is expected to attend school next week.
