Another big crackdown on junk cars is coming in Mobile County.
Prichard Police will be towing cars Sunday morning as part of "Operation Eye Sore."
The owners have had at least 45 days to repair or license the cars.
Police say the cars are not movable or not drivable.
They've been tagged with a special notice: make them legal in 45 days or they'll be towed.
Major Pat Mitchell with the Prichard Police Department says, "They could be abandoned vehicles, have no financial means to repair the vehicles, but nevertheless, we can't just place a vehicle on the side of the road and leave it there."
Police say they tagged a number of cars in an apartment complex near Price Avenue and I-165.
But when News Five drove around the complex Friday afternoon, we couldn't find any of the cars.
People who live in the apartments say crackdowns like Operation Eyesore are working.
Sean Hays says, "Yes, it's a great idea. It has cleaned up Prichard and Prichard is looking real since they started doing that, towing the cars. A lot of people disagree about it, but it looks so nice."
Dwayne Andry says, "Sometimes you have to give folks a chance to fix their car before you pull it, but they give them enough time most likely."
And Kizzy Robinson says, "That's what (police) are trying to do, keep the area clean so it won't look so bad over here."
Mitchell says, "When we started back with the first operation we towed over 200 some vehicles and now we're towing a little over 60 vehicles, so that gives you some type of indication how successful this operation is."
This is the first "Operation Eye Sore" crackdown of the new year in Prichard.
Police say they'll be more crackdowns in the future targeting not only cars, but homes.
