HARTSELLE, Ala. (AP) - Animal control officers are trying to
find shelter for 27 pit bulls taken from a Hartselle man after drug
agents raided his house, which authorities said was in squalid
condition.
Morgan County Sheriff Greg Bartlett said 24-year-old Ashley Dale
Adams was arrested on charges of possessing marijuana and
prescription medication and may face charges of animal cruelty. He
posted a $1,050 bond and was released from the Morgan County Jail
yesterday.
Barlett said agents notified the Department of Human Resources
after finding a juvenile living inside Adam's residence, in which
the dogs had been defecating.
Animal Control Director Claudia Ray said Adams cooperated with
her office by turning over 13 adult dogs and seven puppies from the
house, as well as seven others kept at a separate residence.
She said other animal shelters pitched in to provide for the
dogs.
