LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say at least 20 Valentine's
Day lollipops that appear to have metal fragments in them have been
recovered from a Polk County elementary school.
The discovery comes less than a day after Lisa Potter of
Mulberry told authorities she found a piece of metal protruding
from a bag of candy and Valentine's cards she bought for her son at
a Dollar General store in Lakeland.
By this afternoon, Dollar General stores had pulled all bags of
the Pokemon Valentine Cards and Pops from its shelves.
Authorities say the 20 additional lollipops all came from
Kathleen Elementary School. Detectives plan to X-ray the candy.
It's not clear if any criminal charges will be filed.
The product's manufacturer, Sherwood Brands of Maryland, is
cooperating. The company could not be reached for comment.
