The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says 17-year old Jonathan Boals is the student who brought gun and ammunition to school on Tuesday.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a teacher found an empty gun box in a classroom just before 11:00 a.m. School officials suspected it was Boals who brought it to school. When they spotted him in the cafeteria, Boals ran. He was caught near Jones Road. A deputy witnessed Boals throw down the gun and some ammunition. Both were recovered. The gun, a Keltec .380, was not loaded.
Boals is charged with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, and disruption of a school function.
A School Resource Officer says Boals did not make any threats. Boals told investigators he had no intentions of harming anyone. He says he had the weapon with him because he'd gotten it Monday evening and then spent the night away from home.
Boals was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Crestview.
