Escape charges were dismissed today against Eddie Smith, a Mobile County man accused skipping town while under house arrest last year. Instead, Smith fled the country and was found this past September by the Mobile County Sheriff's Office in Costa Rica. In court Wednesday, Smith plead guilty to possession of a fire arm. Smith was sentenced to six months in prison, and forbidden to possess a gun; if he is ever found with a fire arm again he will face federal charges. With time served, after being booked in Metro Jail September 5th, Smith could be released from jail next month. Smith was on the run for about four months.
