The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says a Crestview High School student brought a gun and ammunition to school.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a teacher found an empty gun box in a classroom just before 11:00 a.m. School officials started looking for the student they believed brought it to school. When they spotted him in the cafeteria, the 17-year-old student ran. He was caught near Jones Road. A deputy witnessed the student throw down the gun and some ammunition. Both were recovered. The gun, a Keltec .380, was not loaded.
The student is charged with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm on school grounds, and resisting arrest. Investigators are questioning the teenager to find out why he brought the gun to school. The student's name will be released later today.
