Multi-Billion Dollar Spacewalk

Multi-Billion Dollar Spacewalk

Astronauts lift new, $2 Billion lab out of Shuttle Atlantis and attach it to the International Space Station.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER (AP) - Astronauts inside and outside the
international space station have spent the day unloading a new
space lab from the shuttle Atlantis.
Using a robot arm, they lifted the two billion dollar European
lab, called Columbus, from the shuttle, and then attached it. It
took longer than expected to complete the work.
Remaining inside was a German astronaut who was supposed to help
with the hookup. He got sick after last week's liftoff, and was
replaced by an American crew member.
Columbus expands the space station to eight rooms. It will
attach directly to the Harmony compartment that was attached last
fall.
