MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Despite losing in the Democratic
presidential primary in Alabama, Hillary Roddam Clinton could get
more delegates from the state than Barack Obama, based on an
Associated Press tabulation today.
Obama won statewide with 56 percent of the vote to Clinton's 42
percent. The AP tabulation showed Obama with 21 of those and
Clinton with 20 and four still to be determined.
On the Republican side, John McCain is getting a significant
number of delegates after running a close second to Mike Huckabee
in Tuesday's primary.
Huckabee pulled 41 percent of the statewide GOP vote to McCain's
37 percent and Mitt Romney's 18 percent. It showed Huckabee with 20
and McCain with 16 and nine to be determined. Romney had no
delegates.
Democrats also are sending eight superdelegates to the party's
national convention, and four of those have told AP they are for
Clinton, one is for Obama and three are undecided. Republicans are
sending three superdelegates, but their choice isn't known today.
