NEW YORK (AP) - It's now the Year of the Rat. And no, we're not
talking about the presidential campaign. The Asian Lunar New Year
is being celebrated today in New York's Chinatown. The Empire State
Building is also to be lighted in red and yellow in honor of the
holiday. You might think the Year of the Rat is a bad omen. But the
rat is first of the dozen animals in the Chinese zodiac's 12-year
cycle. It symbolizes beginnings, and the rat is seen in the East as
witty, charming and able to amass great wealth.
