Michael Salter Junior loved being a volunteer firefighter, but he may have loved the thrill of riding fire trucks even more. Salter was arrested Wednesday night and charged with two counts of rendering a false alarm. Investigators say the Stapleton volunteer firefighter called 911 and reported two bogus car wrecks this week.
"I'm disappointed and kind of taken back by the whole situation," says Stapleton Fire Chief Tim Pouncey. "I'm hurt because of the breech of trust we put into this gentleman and then for him to do something like this."
Investigators say Salter admitted to making the false calls and told detectives he did it because he liked to ride on fire trucks.
"You don't waste money or put people's lives at risk because you like fire trucks," says Pouncey. "Salter has been suspended and he'll probably never fight fires in Baldwin County again."
