Big Mob Sweep Nets Members Of Gambino Family

NEW YORK (AP) - Dozens of reputed members of the Gambino crime
family have now been charged with murders, drug trafficking,
extortion and other crimes dating back to the 1970s.
A federal indictment released in New York covers gangland
killings as far back as when the crime family was run by Paul
Castellano, who was killed in 1985.
The most recent crimes date back only a few years, and include
charges related to credit fraud conspiracies and theft of union
benefits.
Arrests are under way in New York and New Jersey, and also in
Italy.
Federal authorities say about 60 people are either in custody or
being sought in connected with the charges, including the reputed
acting leader.
The operation, code-named "Old Bridge," targets Mafia figures
who have been strengthening mob ties between Italy and the U.S.
