Thousands of people took to the streets of Downtown Mobile for Joe Cain Day today (Sunday).

Revellers lined the streets as Joe Cain led the way for the annual Joe Cain Day Procession.
Also known as Chief Slacabamorinico, people say he resurrected Mobile's Mardi Gras after the Civil War. Since then his veiled Merry Maids and Widows join in the festivities by celebrating his legacy every year. To the crowds it's something they look forward to being apart of. "There's so many people out here, you just have a lot of fun,the parade is great," Said Una Spencer, who has enjoyed the festivities for several years.
But whether it's the throws, the floats or bundles of beads, there's something that folks say remains constant for Mardi Gras in Mobile. "This is where it originally started, everybody thinks it's New Orleans but no it's not. It's Mobile!"Said Spencer.
