For a guy that's paying taxes, Don Catlan is in a pretty good mood.

“It's got to be done, I've got the money so I'm going to pay it,” says Don. He says sometimes fun gets in the way of responsibility.

“I want to beat the penalty that comes with paying after today, but I've been hunting so...” says Don with a smile. Revenue Commissioner Marilyn Wood is helping a lot of procrastinators. She says about 47% of taxpayers in mobile county will be late this year.

“This is running neck and neck to what we normally get but it's more this year than we have had in the past probably because of the economy,” says Wood. People paying on New Year's Eve are getting those property taxes in by the skin of their teeth those that are delinquent will have to face some penalties.

“We collect interest on an annual rate of 12% and it's broken down at 1% per month and that's broken down to a daily rate,” says Wood. Wood says the average tax bill is about $900. To pay your bill online you can go to this link: Mobile County Revenue Commissioner.
