Mobile, AL. (Dec. 16)---Four years ago Tyronne Green left Pensacola's Woodham High as an up and coming defensive lineman. Next month he'll return to the Gulf Coast as an offensive guard looking to raise his NFL draft stock. The Auburn graduate has accepted an invitation to play in the 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl on January 24 in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium, bowl officials announced today. The game is scheduled for 6 pm (CT) and will be televised live by the NFL Network.
Green started twenty five straight games for the Tigers the last two seasons and was named to Phil Steele's All-SEC Third-Team Offense this season. He consistently graded out as one of the top linemen for the Tigers in 2008, earning grades of 92 percent against both LSU and Mississippi State.
"Tyronne has been a leader on the Auburn offensive line the past two years and is a solid NFL prospect. We are looking forward to watching him compete here at the Senior Bowl next month," Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said.
After signing with the Tigers as a defensive tackle out of high school, Green was moved to the offensive side of the ball his redshirt freshman year. The move paid off as Green played primarily as a backup his sophomore year before breaking onto the scene last year. As a junior, Green received the Ken Rice Award, which is given annually to Auburn's best blocking lineman. He started every single game for the Tigers this season, recording 15 cockroach blocks, 14.5 pancake blocks and 83 rodeo blocks.
"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to play with the elite players in college football and can't wait to see what I can do," Green said. "I look forward to the whole week and I know a lot of people from my hometown plan on coming over to see me live and in person, so it should be fun."
