MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Federal prosecutors plan to appeal ex-Orange
Beach Mayor Steve Russo's lighter sentence for a corruption scheme
involving land deals.
They also filed notice to appeal real estate investor Ken Wall's
sentence for arranging a land deal that netted Russo $400,000. U.S.
District Judge Kristi DuBose sentenced Russo to 10 years after his
2006 conviction. But DuBose took a year off the sentence when the
Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back
after overturning Russo's conviction for misuse of campaign funds.
The court also sent Wall's case back after determining DuBose
erred when throwing out a conspiracy conviction. She ruled in
November that Wall, who finished serving his sentence of a year and
a day, did not have to return to prison.
