A South Mobile County family will be in a home for the holidays after spending three Christmases in a FEMA camper.

The Ladnier's of Coden lost their home during Hurricane Katrina. On Thursday, they moved into a four bedroom home in Bayou La Batre's Safe Harbor subdivision. They applied to get a house months ago and their new pad is finally ready!

Bayou La Batre's Mayor Stan Wright says the people in South Mobile County went through "hell and high water." That's why when FEMA offered up 15.7 million to help rebuild parts of Alabama, Wright jumped at the chance to get some of the money.

By the end of the year, 36 families will be in the FEMA funded neighborhood.

The modular homes are built to withstand 150 mph wind and are 82 feet above sea level. Tenants pay 20% of their household income and will eventually have the option to buy.
