Bayou La Batre's Dirty Cop?

Bayou La Batre's Dirty Cop?

Bayou's Police Chief says an officer was a "lookout" while his brother stole meth-making material.

A former Bayou La Batre police officer is accused of being "the lookout" while a family member committed a crime. Police Chief John Joyner says Corporal Ray Shelly was the supervisor on duty and ran the streets during his shift. According to Joyner, Shelly's stepbrother Brian Teasley stole anhydrous ammonia from Deep Sea Foods on Shell Belt Road. While that crime was going on, Joyner says Shelly was his lookout and didn't report Teasley. "Up until this point, he had been a good officer and we were still in kinda denial but as this investigation rolled on, more things were uncovered." To make matters worse, all the drug and traffic cases that Shelley worked on duty had to be thrown out of court. The U.S. Attorney's Office won't confirm their investigation or comment on possible charges. Shelly was fired from the police department in July. The Mobile County Personnel Board upheld that decision on Tuesday. We tried calling Shelly, his father, stepbrother and lawyer for reaction to the allegations. No one responded to our request.
