Holiday Driving Safety

Holiday Driving Safety

Take Back Our Highways starts Wednesday

If you’re travelling this holiday season, Alabama State Troopers aren’t messing around.

“We’ll have every available state trooper on the highway looking for aggressive driving, speeders, people who choose to drink while impaired and get on the highways,” says Corporal Joe Piggott with the Alabama Highway Patrol. He says the seasonal “Take Back Our Highways Campaign” is once again safety centric.

“Our goal is to get them where they need to be safely there’s some things we know are going to happen that we have no control over, we know it’s going to be crowded at the tunnel, hopefully the weather will be nice,” says Piggott. Many drivers like Melissa Rankins say even though their gas bill is ticking down, they’re travelling less.

“They just need to be careful because it’s real crazy this time of year because people are going shopping and everything and everything’s crowded,” says Melissa. The program starts Wednesday and ends on Christmas Eve.
