MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - An attorney for a Mississippi woman charged
in the 1980 shooting death of a University of South Alabama
classmate has asked for a bail reduction.
Defense attorney Chris Klotz said Wednesday the $500,000 bail
set for 47-year-old Jamie Kellam Letson of Pascagoula is not
"within her and her family's means." Police oppose reducing her
bail.
A Mobile County judge will consider the request at a Feb. 18
hearing.
Letson, 47, who was arrested Nov. 21 at a shelter in Jackson,
Miss., is charged in the slaying of Katherine Foster, also of
Pascagoula, on Feb. 21, 1980, and leaving her body in woods near
campus.
Deputy Mobile Police Chief James Barber called the evidence
against Letson "overwhelming."
