MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley has proclaimed an
'Internet Safety Day' in Alabama.
The governor also announced Wednesday that the Verizon
Foundation is awarding nearly $60,000 of grants to programs that
help keep kids safe online.
Riley said bullies, thieves and predators can now reach victims
right in their homes.
He said parents need to set rules on Internet usage and talk to
their children about online safety and cautioned that people of all
ages should be aware.
Verizon awarded $25,000 to the Alabama Network of Children's
Advocacy Centers, $9,500 for the Geneva County Family Resource
Center, $10,000 for Girls Inc. of Central Alabama and $15,000 to
the Madison City School System.
