MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State and federal authorities are
investigating a suspicious letter that arrived at the Alabama
Capitol addressed to the governor.
State Public Safety Director Chris Murphy said Capitol police
were notified about 12:30 p.m. Monday of a suspicious letter in the
mail room in the basement of the Capitol. Tests showed it did not
contain anthrax or any other dangerous substance.
Murphy said no one was injured. But the Montgomery Fire
Department's hazardous materials team and two ambulances were
called as a precaution.
Murphy said similar letters arrived Monday for the governors of
Mississippi, Missouri, Michigan and Rhode Island.
