For the first time in 16 months, Juan Chastang sat in his former seat on the Mobile County Commission. Chastang has been out of the seat since April 2007 when a judicial panel removed him, saying his appointment by Alabama Governor Bob Riley was illegal. The court has since ruled that the appointment was legal.
In an interview with News 5's Tiffany Craig, Chastang is now back at work for the county and plans to seek back pay for the time he was gone. "I am entitled to it and that's something that's going to be worked out in the future and that's the only thing i have to say abut that. I'm entitled to it by law and I'm entitled and it's gonna be worked out soon and we'll move forward after that", says Chastang.
Merceria Ludgood has been representing District One after winning a special election in October to replace Chastang. She resigned earlier this week, and is running unopposed in the November general election.
