Bayou Mayor: We Dodged Bullet

Bayou La Batre got an uninvited guest Monday morning.

Bayou La Batre Mayor Stan Wright says Fay was just a rainmaker. "We was blessed. It went north of us and we've had maybe an inch-and-a-half of rain. I think we just dodged a bullet on this one and that's a good thing."

The remnants of the Fay moved in overnight and left behind some flooding and a few downed trees.

West Warner Street and Shell Belt Road got most of the water. Both roads were shut down for a few hours.

Al and Debra Marchand live right across the street from Portersville Bay on Shell Belt. Al woke up when the power went out early in the morning. "I was kinda on pins and needles and when the power goes out, it gets so deathly quiet inside the house. All you can hear is (sound of waves) and you can feel it."

There were no reports of major damage and all roads are now open to drivers.
