MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Mobile officials expect an announcement from
Carnival Cruise Lines will boost tourism activity at the Alabama
port.
Carnival's oldest vessel, the Holiday, has been based at Mobile
since 2004 and apparently will be replaced by a larger ship as the
Miami-based firm shuffles some of its vessels. The Holiday on
average has sailed full, according to Carnival, and a larger ship
could bring more tourism dollars.
Officials expect the announcement Monday afternoon and declined
comment before then. Mobile officials have approved spending $3
million on terminal improvements to handle a larger ship.
