JERUSALEM (AP) - Doctors in Israel say a premature baby girl declared stillborn was found to be alive - after six hours in a hospital morgue refrigerator.

The baby's mother was rushed to a hospital with severe pain and bleeding. Doctors determined that her foetus, delivered in just the 23rd week of pregnancy, was dead. Hospital director Dr Massad Barhoum told Israeli media that the family made funeral arrangements. When they went to retrieve the tiny body, they found the baby breathing and showing a faint heartbeat.

The baby, weighing just 1 pound, three oundes, was taken to the intensive care unit. Barhoum told Army Radio the baby was breathing on her own. But he said her chances of survival are "very, very slim" because she was born so early.
