The annexation proposal has a lot of people in the Semmes area and Moffett Road talking.
The area the City of Mobile wants to annex is bounded by Prichard city limits to the east and Mobile city limits to the south.
But it stretches along Moffett Road to the west past Schillinger Road.
It includes the King's Branch Subdivision and many along businesses along Moffett Road.
One of the largest businesses is the Wal-Mart SuperCenter at Moffett and Schillinger.
Sales taxes there and at other newly annexed businesses would go up two cents on the dollar.
Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine represents the area and isn't happy about the proposal.
Nodine said, "We know the people of Semmes have wanted to incorporate and the Wal-Mart was the big piece of their ability of having and sustaining a tax base to have a city of their own."
Judy Hale is also against the proposal.
She belongs to a group that wants to incorporate Semmes as a city.
Hale said, "We want to incorporate because we want to keep our tax dollars here in Semmes. All of the area that they have on their annexation plans would be on what we would have on our map for incorporating Semmes."
News Five asked people shopping Friday at the Wal-Mart store what they think about the annexation proposal.
Jessie Kemp said, "I like it the way it is. That's why I moved out here. (I) just moved out here."
Wiley Mcmillian lives in the King's Branch Subdivision and said, "Growth for Mobile at this time is great, so I'm all for the annex."
Charlotte Stetson lives in Gulfcrest south of Citronelle.
She said, "If the taxes go up, I guess I'm going to find somewhere else to go."
Patricia Miller lives on Lott Road in the part of west Mobile recently annexed by the City of Mobile.
When asked how she likes annexation in her area, she said, "I think its working out good."
