Surrounded by armed guards, captial murder suspect Eric Buzbee was escorted inside the Baldwin County Courthouse Thursday morning. Buzbee was temporarily released from his jail cell to attend a motion hearing in Judge James Reid's courtroom. A motion to suppress evidence collected in the search of Buzbee's home was one of the motions on the table.
But after several hours of hearing arguments from both sides, Judge Reid adjourned and re-set the hearing for a later date. Reid made the decision when the district attorney's office presented him with last-minute case law pertaining to the hearing.
"I don't blame him for his decision," says Buzbee's attorney, John Beck. "It's the only thing he could do when the D-A's office gave him late case law information. It's frustrating, but I don't blame the judge."
"Anytime there's a delay in a court case, it's frustrating," says Asst. District Attorney Hallie Dixon. "But I'd much rather have the court make a ruling in accordance with the law for a small delay than a judge make the wrong decision."
Bobby Wilson's daughter, who was also at the hearing, was upset about the delay.
"It's frustrating," says Tracey Goens. "We wanted to move forward, find out the truth and eventually get some closure."
