A travelling preacher accused of killing his wife and stuffing her body in a freezer may have first buried her in a shallow grave.
Anthony Hopkins, 37, was back in court today for a preliminary hearing where shocking new details were released.
Hopkins is accused of murdering his wife and raping, sodomizing and sexually abusing one of the couple's eight children.
According to Detective Kent Quinnie of the Mobile Police Department, the daughter, who police say was raped by Hopkins, told investigators Hopkins strangled her mom after she caught him in the bathroom fondling her.
The daughter recalled an explusive argument between her parents and told police she heard a loud commotion. As her mom fought for her life, the daughter says she heard her scream "Call the cops. Your dad is trying to kill me, your dad is trying to kill me!" Among her final words, "I'll do anything. Please let me go."
The detective also testified about how Hopkins tried to dispose of the body. According to the daughter's statement, Hopkins first tried to hide the body in a wooded area in Semmes, then asked for her help moving the body to a grave in Jackson. After an unknown amount of time, police say Hopkins again asked his daughter for help, this time to dig the body back up and put her in a freezer at their home in Mobile.
Another detective, Cpl. Michael Shavers, testified about the sex charges. Shavers said Hopkins manipulated his daughter into having sex with him using the biblical story of Lott. According to the testimony, the sexual abuse began in Jackson and lasted eight years.
Hopkins was arrested June 28th in Jackson where he was preaching at a revival. Earlier this month, he pleaded not guilty to murder, sexual abuse, rape, sodomy and incest.
