MS Family Caught In The Conflict

The conflict between Russia and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia has hit home for one Mississippi mother. Melanie Allen says when the fighting between Russia and Georgia broke out, her son, Lee, and his Georgian wife, Tiko, were in Georgia's capital city of Tbilisi. When Allen last spoke to her son Tuesday, she says he was supposed to catch a caravan with his wife out of Georgia and into a neighboring country. She is still waiting to hear if they made it out okay, "thank God the U.S. Embassy there was able to put together this caravan.This is the second caravan of people, of Americans, that have been sheperded by the Embassy out of the country that we know of and hopefully they made that caravan and they are in route now to safety," said Allen. Allen says Lee and Tiko want to come back to Mobile, where Lee grew up, or Ocean Springs. But, she says they won't be able to return to the United States, because Tiko is still trying to get her visa. Allen says Lee won't leave his wife behind.
