Some Toronto residents have been allowed to
return home, after explosions at a propane facility forced
thousands of people to evacuate early Sunday.
Witnesses describedg the sky lighting up in the glow of an
enormous fireball. Frightened residents fled into the night in
panic, some in pajamas.
One firefighter died, one plant worker is unaccounted for and
some area residents suffered minor injuries. There are at least
five heavily damaged homes.
The explosions shut down part of Canada's busiest highway and a
part of the subway system, snarling traffic for thousands of
travelers.
Some residents said the blast was so forceful they felt their
homes rock as though they had been struck by an earthquake.
The fumes from the blast were found not to be toxic.
