They're bringing in their books, stapling up classrooms and sharpening their pencils to prepare for the first day of school."Some of us have been working all summer so we're hopefully are pretty confident about coming in to this school year,"Said Melinda Strong, a teacher at Jeremiah A. Denton Middle School.
Strong is one of several other teachers scrambling to get things in order at Jeremiah A. Denton Middle School. Students haven't filled up classrooms yet..but Strong says the pressure is already on. "It's always exciting and a little nerve wrecking the first day, it's just you're getting new kids and you're getting to know them," Said Strong. While schools across Mobile County can expect their hallways to be flooded with students tomorrow, school leaders say students and parents should be prepared for a lot of changes this year.
Mobile County School System Transportation officials say because of a tight budget, they had to cut 15 bus routes. School officials hope it will balance things out after facing teacher cuts and other setbacks, this past year. Despite the ups and downs school leaders say it hasn't affected their teaching morale.
"They've been out painting their schools, they've been cutting the lawn, they've been putting up bulletin boards, they've been getting ready to welcome students. So I am really enthusiastic,"said Superintendent Dr. Roy Nichols with the Mobile County Public School System.
Mobile County School officials want to remind parents to check if their child's bus route has changed. For more details on bus route changes click here.
