Grammy and Academy award winning musician Isaac Hayes died early this morning at a Memphis, Tennessee hospital.
According to sheriff's officials, Hayes was found unconscious next to a treadmill in his home by a family member. Paramedics tried to revive him and took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say, at this point, no foul play is suspected.
Hayes first gained fame as a musician and songwriter for Stax Records in Memphis where he played in the studio band and wrote songs that were recorded by Sam and Dave, Otis Redding and others.
His big break came in 1971, when the movie "Shaft" was released. the movie theme won an Oscar for best original theme song. It also took home the Grammy for best original score and movie theme.
He also provided the voice of Chef in South Park, the animated TV series.
Isaac Hayes was 55 years old.
