A joint traffic checkpoint effort with the Prichard Police Department and Alabama State Troopers resulted in dozens of citations and nine arrests. Spokesperson Nona Simmons tells News 5 officers wrote more than 80 traffic tickets, and made one felony arrest and eight misdemeanor arrests. Offenses ranged from vehicle equipment violations to child restraint violations. The checkpoints began at 9pm Saturday night. Simmons says most of the traffic citations were written in The Village area.
The checkpoints targeted speeding, driving under the influence, seatbelt violations, and mandatory insurance. Simmons says another joint checkpoint operation will be conducted soon in Prichard.
