MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Prosecutors have asked a federal appeals
court to uphold the bribery convictions and federal prison
sentences of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman and former
HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy.
The government has filed a 170-page brief with the 11th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals. It is a reply to the appeal briefs filed
earlier by attorneys for Siegelman and Scrushy.
The prosecutors dispute claims by defense attorneys that the
government did not prove a quid pro quo arrangement between
Siegelman and Scrushy.
Prosecutors also said in the brief that claims of jurors
communicating among themselves by e-mail have been thoroughly
investigated and should not be a reason to grant a new trial.
