KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Randy Owen, lead singer of the country
group Alabama, will hold a benefit concert in Knoxville for victims
of last month's church shooting that left two dead and six wounded.
Owen called Knoxville radio station WIVK-FM last week asking if
he could do anything to help after the July 27 shooting at the
Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church
Mike Hammond, the station's program director, suggested Owen do
the concert.
The Cotton Eyed Joe night club is donating its facility, sound
and light equipment for the Aug. 15 concert. No tickets will be
sold in advance, but organizers are asking for $5 donations.
Jim D. Adkisson is charged with first-degree murder and is being
held on $1 million bond.
He said his hatred of liberals caused him to target the church,
which has been active in social issues.
