TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A requirement for public schools to
teach "critical analysis" of evolution has passed in the Florida
House.
The term "critical analysis" is one used by intelligent design
advocates. The bill's sponsor, though, Monday denied it would
require or allow teaching intelligent design.
That concept holds some features of the universe and of living
things are best explained by an "intelligent cause." Some
advocates say it's a scientific theory, but a federal judge in
Pennsylvania has ruled it is religious.
The bill now goes to the Senate, which has passed a different
version that does not include the "critical analysis" language.
