German chancellor Angela Merkel announced a nationwide "Girl's day" in Germany.

She encouraged young women and girls to choose more technical jobs and education.

Merkel, who herself studied physics in college invited several girls to join her.

Merkel hopes that girls from grades 5-10 will go visit companies for one day and will ultimately pick non-classic female jobs.

Over eight thousand companies will participate in Girls Day Thursday, and 130,000 females are expected to partake in the event. Girls day was originally founded in 1983 in the US.

More and more boys also take part in Girls Day to get a chance to explore jobs that were once dominated by women.
