Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
sought to end speculation today that she might be a vice
presidential running mate for Arizona Senator John McCain.
She praised McCain, but told the Associated Press in an
interview that she doesn't --quote-- "want to be, don't intend to
be, won't be on the ticket."
Instead, she says she'll return to academic pursuits at Stanford
University.
Rice was in her home state today to receive the first honorary
degree awarded by the Air University, located at Maxwell Air Force
Base in Montgomery.
The ceremony was attended by several hundred students and
faculty and a couple of Rice's relatives and recognized her
achievements in international affairs.
Her speech at the ceremony focused on international matters,
including making a long-term commitment to Afghanistan and Iraq.
