NEW YORK (AP) - J.K. Rowling says her efforts to halt a
publisher's "Harry Potter" lexicon have been crushing her
creativity.
Testifying today in a New York courtroom, Rowling said she has
stopped work on a new novel.
Rowling is suing RDR Books to stop publication of Steven Vander
Ark's "Harry Potter Lexicon."
She told the court that the Lexicon represents "wholesale
theft" of 17 years of her hard work on the Harry Potter books.
RDR's lawyer defended the lexicon as a reference guide, and said
it's perfectly legal.
But Rowling's lawyer says RDR is trying to get out ahead of
Rowling's own plans to publish a Harry Potter encyclopedia.
The trial in U.S. District Court comes eight months after
Rowling published her seventh and final book in the Harry Potter
series. The books have been published in 64 languages, sold more
than 400 million copies, and spawned a film franchise that has
pulled in 4.5 billion dollars at the box office worldwide.
