JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Entergy Mississippi officials say 19,000
people are still without electricity today (Monday), three days
after tornadoes ripped through the central part of the state.
About 16,000 of those without power are in the metropolitan
Jackson area.
Entergy spokesman Checky Herrington today says the damage is
much more extensive than company officials originally thought.
He says power should be restored to most customers by late
tomorrow (Tuesday) but in harder hit areas, it could be Wednesday.
Entergy brought in crews from Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas.
Herrington says private contractors and workers from another
utility company in Alabama also were working in central
Mississippi.
The National Weather Service confirmed that five tornadoes
ripped through central Mississippi on Friday. No one was killed,
but at least 22 people were injured.
