The Milton Public Works Department has a big job ahead of them. Work crews are scrambling to repair a temporary dam on Collins Mill Creek that broke when severe weather rolled through the panhandle Saturday.

"We're trying to beat the next round of rain," says Public Works Director Brian Watkins. "The weather forecast says it could rain again by Wednesday, so we want to get this dam repaired."

The breach caused a flash flood. At least one home on the creek was flooded.

About ten miles east of Milton at Blackwater River State Park, recreational facilities are closed because of high water and the main road through the park is impassible. Most drivers using Deaton Bridge Road turned around at the high water mark, but a few drivers chanced it and navigated the flooded road. Deaton Bridge Road could be dangerous for at least another day.
