Governor Bob Riley ordered flags on all state buildings to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Saturday to honor former Congressman Bill Dickinson, who passed away Monday night in Montgomery.
“Throughout his long career of public service, Bill Dickinson proved himself to be a great leader," Riley said. "He was a formidable defender of our men and women in uniform and supporter of a strong military. Patsy and I will keep his family in our prayers during this difficult time for them.”
The Governor is also encouraging schools and local government to lower flags on their facilities until sunset on Saturday.
Dickinson's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will
be at Rosemere Cemetery in Opelika.
Dickinson served in Congress for 28 years and was best known for his work on the House Armed Services Committee.
