TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Three United Parcel Service workers have
been charged with stealing University of Alabama football tickets
from customers. A UPS spokesman said the employees worked at the
UPS Center in Tuscaloosa. The company said all three were fired for
their alleged involvement.
Tuscaloosa Police Chief Ken Swindle said in a statement today
that a ticket broker purchased the tickets from one of the
individuals and then sold them to someone else. When the buyer
presented the ticket at a recent game he was questioned by UA
ticket officials.
Swindle said UPS launched an investigation and notified police.
Darryl James Crawford and Velmer Mallisham were each charged
with theft of property - their bonds were set at $20,000 and
$15,000, respectively. Another individual - Brooks Thomas was
charged with receiving stolen property. His bail was set at
$10,000.
All were placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, pending posting
of bond.
Swindle said the University sent replacement tickets to those
who did not receive the tickets.
