NEW YORK (AP) - Barry Bonds' record-breaking home run ball is
headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame -- with an asterisk.
Fashion designer Marc Ecko made the announcement on the
"Today" show on NBC.
Ecko bought the ball Bonds hit for home run number 756 in an
online auction for more than $752,000, then set up a Web site for
fans to vote on its fate.
Branding the ball won out over the other options: sending it to
the museum unblemished or launching it into space.
Bonds has been dogged by allegations of steroid use. He has
denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs. Last week, he
called Ecko "an idiot."
The San Francisco Giants are parting ways with Bonds after this
season.
