NEW YORK (AP) - It's not exactly a stocking stuffer but it's just in time for Christmas.

An unidentified American is the proud new owner of a Norman Rockwell painting of Santa Claus.

It was sold by Christie's auction house in New York yesterday for 2.17 million dollars.

The painting is called "Extra Good Boys and Girls" and was the cover of a Saturday Evening Post in 1939. It shows Santa going over his list of good boys and girls and planning his Christmas Eve route in front of a map of the world.

The buyer and the seller both wished to remain anonymous.

Yesterday's auction was part of Christie's sale of important American paintings, drawings and sculptures.
