In a media release, University of Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore said the school is mourning the loss of Ellen Bible Stacy. She was the wife of former Bama runningback Siran Stacy. Bible-Stacy and four of her children were killed in a Monday night traffic accident near Dothan. Siran Stacy and a three-year-old daughter survived the accident and are hospitalized.

Moore says Bible-Stacy was a co-captain of Alabama’s women’s volleyball team in 1991, and a four-year letter winner from 1989-92 for head coach Dorothy Franco-Reed. Her hometown is Lafayette, Indiana. Moore says she earned the team’s “Rock” Award three times during her career (1989, 1990 and 1992) in recognition of her hustle and determination. A hitter for the Tide, Ellen led the Tide in digs in 1990 with 273. In 1992, Bible had a team-leading 30 service aces and was fourth on the team with 140 digs. As a junior in 1991, Bible was ninth in the Southeastern Conference in service aces with 48.
