Musharraf says 'No' to postponing elections

»  Comments | Post a Comment

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - So far, the assassination of
opposition leader Benazir Bhutto hasn't affected plans to hold
parliamentary elections next month in Pakistan.
Pakistan's prime minister says the government has no plan to
postpone the January 8th vote.
The head of the interim government that is meant to oversee the
vote says any decision on a delay will be made in consultation with
all political parties.
Nawaz Sharif, another opposition leader, has already announced
his party will boycott the elections following Bhutto's death
yesterday. Bhutto's own party has yet to announce whether it will
still take part.
President Pervez Musharraf claims the vote will bring democracy
to Pakistan.
