HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) - Thirty-five years after a jet crashed
into the Everglades, a Homestead man is finally getting appreciated
for his role in saving some of the passengers and crew members.
Bud Marquis, now 78 years old, saw the fiery orange flash and
rushed to the scene.
Ninety-four passengers, the three pilots and two flight
attendants aboard Eastern Airlines Flight 401 were dead.
Investigators marveled that anyone, let alone 77, survived.
On Saturday, 60 airboats will carry survivors and victims'
relatives to the crash site. Marquis will lead. The survivors hope
to build a memorial near the site.
